Commander Brian Johnson was born in Chicago and moved to Salinas in 1994. He spent many years as a computer consultant and decided to change careers after the 9/11 attacks. He was hired by Salinas Police Department in 2004, where he served in numerous assignments, including Investigations, SWAT, Computer Forensics, and Crime Scene Investigator.
Commander Johnson was promoted to sergeant in 2014. As a Sergeant he worked Patrol, Investigations and Internal Affairs. He was promoted to Commander in 2020. As a Commander, he worked Patrol, Personnel and Training, Crisis Intervention Team, Chaplain Program, and Motors.
Commander Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Business Administration from Faulkner University. He also attended the Senior Management Institute for Police by the Police Executive Police Forum.
