National Night Out

Join over 38 million neighbors across thousands of communities around the nation for the annual National Night Out celebration, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our community a safe and more caring place to live.

National Night Out takes place on the first Tuesday in August every year to celebrate and build police-community partnerships and promote community safety. National Night Out is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch.

The Focus of National Night Out:

  • Strengthen community spirit and police-community partnerships

  • Increase awareness about local police programs

  • Strengthen relationships with partner agencies

  • Raise awareness about community safety and local anti-crime efforts

FAQs About National Night Out

Register your Agency or Organization for booth space

Agencies, nonprofits, community groups, and local organizations are invited to participate in Salinas Police Department’s National Night Out by reserving booth space and joining us in this citywide celebration. Booths are a great way to share resources, highlight programs, and connect directly with families across Salinas. If your organization would like to be part of this year’s event, simply complete the registration form at www.police.salinas.gov/nno-reg/. We look forward to partnering with you to make National Night Out a vibrant, welcoming, and community‑centered evening!

For SPD, National Night Out is an opportunity to connect with the community in a relaxed, positive environment. Officers meet neighbors, answer questions, share safety information, and build relationships that support long‑term public safety. The event also helps youth and families get to know the department, learn about career paths in law enforcement, and see the human side of policing.

Each year, the Salinas Police Department partners with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to host a variety of family‑friendly activities, including:

  • Food trucks, BBQs, and refreshments

  • Safety demonstrations and educational booths

  • Youth activities, games, bouncy house, and interactive displays

  • Equipment exhibits featuring SPD patrol vehicles, specialty units, Public Works equipment, and fire trucks

  • Drone and K9 demonstrations

These events are designed to be welcoming, fun, and informative — a chance for families to enjoy the evening while strengthening connections with the officers who serve them.
